Attention to details

I have frequented “The Keg Restaurant “ for many years. I made arrangements on the internet to book a date and time as well as the “occasion” as is asked. It was my wife’s Birthday. I must point out the service and food were outstanding as usual (excluding dessert, which was terrible). My complaint is this, why ask what the occasion is when making a reservation if you don’t have plan to do anything with the information. I simply call this “lack of attention to detail”. It costs very little to put a candle in a cupcake and bring it to the table to honor the dinner guest. That did not happen so .I ordered a dessert off the menu which was not very good, (we did not eat it and it was compted as so it should). Again another opportunity to put in a candle in the dessert. I can appreciate it if it’s due to Covid you don’t want people blowing things around but it was just the 2 of us and we had plexiglass separating us from other people. So if it is due to Covid then think out of the box and have the Chef use a chocolate sauce to spell out Happy Birthday, freeze it and use that next to a cup cake.. So other than staff members saying Happy Birthday, there was really no reason for the Keg to ask what the special occasion is for. Maybe I am being petty but as I mentioned if there is a request for the occasion then work with it, or take the question off the reservation information.
